EFSA’s CEF Panel Working Group on BPA assessment protocol holds 13th and 14th meeting on the reevaluation of BPA safety; meeting minutes available online

On November 29, 2017 the European Food Safety Authority’s (EFSA) Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes, Flavourings and Processing Aids (CEF Panel) published the minutes of the 13th and 14th meeting of its Working Group (WG) on BPA assessment protocol. The meetings were held on October 30 and November 8, 2017, respectively, by phone conference.

During the 13th meeting, the WG discussed its experts’ “trial of the appraisal tool for human and animal studies” on bisphenol A (BPA, CAS 80-05-7) to be used in EFSA’s reassessment of the safety of BPA. In particular, “the integration of the different aspects in the tools and the treatment of cross-sectional studies” were discussed.

During the 14th meeting, the WG discussed the revised version of the BPA safety assessment protocol with its experts and made final amendments.

The meeting minutes inform that no further meetings of the WG are planned.
