Dr. Helene Wiesinger
Scientific Communication Officer
Helene is the Scientific Officer at the Food Packaging Forum, where she leads research and communication efforts across the organization’s scientific projects, including developing and curating chemical databases.
Helene is a chemist focused on hazardous chemicals in food contact materials and plastics. She earned an MSc and PhD in chemistry and an MSc in science, technology, and policy from ETH Zurich. During her PhD, she focused on hazardous chemicals present in plastics and how they can impact plastics recycling. Helene’s passion for her work comes from a deep sense of sustainability that was shaped by her upbringing in a very pristine rural environment in Austria. Through her efforts, Helene hopes to combat plastic pollution and promote more sustainable and safer practices.
As Scientific Officer at the Food Packaging Forum, Helene updates the evidence base for food contact chemicals and informs stakeholders about the latest scientific findings. Her current projects include revising the FCCmigex database, prioritizing food contact chemicals based on their hazards and exposure evidence (FCCprio), and writing science news articles for the Food Packaging Forum.
