Jane is a purpose-driven scientist who feels a responsibility to use her knowledge to improve public health and to protect those who don’t have a voice from hazardous chemicals by speaking for them. Jane holds an MSc in environmental science and a PhD in environmental toxicology from ETH Zurich. She trained in analytical chemistry and ecotoxicology at Eawag (Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology) during her graduate and postgraduate work. Before founding the Food Packaging Forum, Jane joined Emhart Glass, where she analyzed scientific information on food contact materials, chemical migration, and impacts on human and environmental health. She hopes to use her scientific and leadership skills to benefit society and nature and she ultimately wants to remove hazardous chemicals from food contact materials, improve safety testing, prevent unnecessary disease, reduce overconsumption, and preserve the Earth for future generations.

As Managing Director and Chief Scientific Officer at the Food Packaging Forum, Jane is involved in all aspects of the organization. She directs strategy, leads scientific research, reports to the Board of Directors, engages in fundraising, develops scientific content, and conducts networking and public outreach. Since founding the Food Packaging Forum in 2012, Jane has helped establish it as an independent scientific organization. She has also put the issue of hazardous chemicals in food contact materials on the agenda, framed the conversation around plastics in the context of health and toxins, spoken at the UN Human Rights Council, and worked with talented individuals within the Food Packaging Forum and beyond.
