On August 11, 2021, the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) published the 5th edition of their EU Food Safety Almanac. The document covers each country in the EU as well as Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, Republic of North Macedonia, Serbia, and Turkey. BfR’s resource provides a diagram of the relationships between all the institutions responsible for any aspect of food and feed safety and then briefly describes each institution’s work and legal standing. Every institution’s description is further accompanied by pictograms representing which aspects of food and feed safety the institution works on. These can include any of  18 food and feed safety responsibilities BfR has defined including food contact materials, environmental risk assessment, contaminants, food ingredients, and nanotechnology.
