On July 10, 2017, Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) launched a new information portal on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs). This resource was developed jointly by the OECD and the Global Perfluorinated Chemicals Group at the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).
According to OECD, PFASs have many industrial applications because of their useful properties, but some of these properties are “associated with environmental and human health concerns.” The new portal aims “to facilitate the exchange of information on PFASs to support a global transition towards safer alternatives.” The covered topics include “introduction to PFASs and their use, risk reduction approaches, alternatives to PFASs, productions and emissions, country resources on PFASs, [and] webinars related to PFASs.”
