Update: BPA proposed as SVHC

France plans two-step submission of proposals to classify BPA as a substance of very high concern; carcinogenic, mutagenic, and reprotoxic potential to be addressed by August 2016; endocrine disrupting properties to follow in February 2017

An article published on March 23, 2016 by regulatory news provider Chemical Watch informs about an update regarding the timeline of France’s proposal to classify bisphenol A (BPA, CAS 80-05-7) as a substance of very high concern (SVHC) under the European regulation on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH). On February 8, 2016 the REACH competent authority of France had submitted an according notification of intention to the registry of intention (RoI) of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) (FPF reported). The submission of the actual SVHC proposal for BPA on the grounds of carcinogenic, mutagenic, and reprotoxic (CMR) properties is expected by August 8, 2016. The submission of a further proposal to classify BPA as an SVHC on the grounds of endocrine disrupting (ED) properties is planned for February 2, 2017.
