Turkey to adopt new regulation on plastic FCMs

Turkey notifies World Trade Organization of new regulation on plastic materials and articles in contact with food; comments accepted until January 14, 2019

In an article published on November 21, 2018, regulatory news provider Chemical Watch reported that Turkey has notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) of a new draft regulation on plastic food contact materials (FCMs) on November 15, 2018.

According to the notification, the “Turkish Food Codex Communiqué on Plastic Materials and Articles in Contact with Food” is proposed to enter into force on February 1, 2019 with a transitional period of two years. It will replace the country’s current plastic FCM regulation of 2013, Chemical Watch informed. “Turkey, as a member of the EU customs union, is bringing all its chemical regulations in line with those of [EU] member states,” Chemical Watch further explained.

The final date for comments on the proposed regulation is January 14, 2019.
