EFSA: New guidance for priority topics

EFSA’s Scientific Committee identifies priority topics requiring new guidance such as interpretation of epidemiological studies, chemical mixtures, and nanotechnologies

On June 20, 2016 the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published a scientific opinion on “Priority topics for the development of risk assessment guidance by EFSA’s Scientific Committee in 2016–2018.” EFSA’s Scientific Committee identified three topics (without priority ranking) requiring new guidance: i) Individual susceptibility and uncertainty factors, ii) interpretation of epidemiological studies, and iii) history of use. Further three areas requiring new or revised guidance and for which work is already under way are: i) Chemical mixtures, ii) the Threshold of Toxicological Concern (TTC) approach, and iii) nanotechnologies.
