66 billion PET bottles recycled

Report by Petcore Europe on post-consumer PET recycling suggests that 57% of PET bottles and containers placed on European market in 2014 were collected and recycled

According to a press release published on September 14, 2015 by the European polyethylene terephthalate (PET) industry association Petcore Europe, an equivalent of 66 billion 1.5L PET bottles were collected and recycled in Europe in 2014. The PET collection rate in 2014 was at 57% and has grown by 6.8% compared to 2013. The recycling industry operating rate in 2014 reached 79% which is lower than the rate of 83% in 2013.

These results come from the report “Post Consumer PET Recycling in Europe 2014” which is based on a Europe-wide survey among actors involved in collection, sorting and recycling of PET. The full report will be presented at the Petcore Europe Conference in Brussels, Belgium on November 24, 2015 (FPF reported) and is available to Petcore Europe members only.
