The frameworks regulating food packaging differ amongst countries and are very complex: the FPF gives an overview

In a new article, the FPF gives a concise and easily understandable overview over the regulatory systems governing food packaging.

Legislation differs widely across countries. In Europe positive lists authorizes the use of monomers and additives plastic packaging materials and specific migration limits exist for various compounds. In the US migration limits are based on exposure modeling and substances can be legally used based on different programs. In Japan legislation is complemented by voluntary industry programs.
