The Spanish ministry responsible for food contact materials issued a draft decree which would establish that PET food contact materials may not contain more than 50% of recycled material. Further, the decree would establish that a valid application of the recycling process must be submitted with the European food and safety authority EFSA, and that the packaging enterprise must have notified the competent health authorities in order to use such material.
