In an article published on September 4, 2017, regulatory news provider Chemical Watch informs that the European Commission (EC) has notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) of planned amendments to the EU regulation on plastic materials and articles intended for food contact ((EU) No 10/2011). The EC proposed to amend Annex I of the plastic FCM regulation (i.e. Union List) to authorize four new food contact substances: 1) 2,4,4-trifluorobenzophenone (TFB, CAS 80512-44-3) (FPF reported); 2) 2,3,3,4,4,5,5-heptafluoro-1-pentene (CAS 1547-26-8) (FPF reported); 3) tungsten oxide (CAS 39318-18-8) (FPF reported); and 4) mixture of methyl-branched and linear C14-C18 alkanamides, derived from fatty acids (CAS 85711- 28-0) (FPF reported). Further, the entry for (butadiene, styrene, methyl methacrylate, butyl acrylate) copolymer cross-linked with divinylbenzene or 1,3-butanediol dimethacrylate (CAS 25101-28-4) in the Union List shall be updated (FPF reported). The EC intends to adopt and publish the amendments in December 2017, with the amended regulation entering into force 20 days after its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
