California consults on 22 chemicals under Proposition 65

State’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) calls for information related to exposure and hazard identification; includes bisphenol S, PFAS, parabens, titanium dioxide nanoparticles; comments accepted until December 10, 2020

On October 2, 2020, the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) announced the launch of a 45-day public comment period on a set of 22 chemicals and groups of chemicals undergoing consideration for listing under the state’s Proposition 65 regulation. The list includes bisphenol S (CAS 80-09-1), four parabens, four per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), and titanium dioxide nanoparticles.

The regulation’s Developmental and Reproductive Toxicant Identification Committee (DARTIC) has scheduled its next meeting for December 10, 2020 to review the chemicals. The Committee will then provide OEHHA with advice on prioritization of chemicals to potentially move forward in the listing process. An online submission platform is available for comments that include information on the potential for exposure to the chemicals as well as any scientific evidence related to the potential preparation of hazard identification materials for the chemicals.
