JRC informs about chemicals in food packaging

EU Joint Research Centre highlights Commission’s efforts in ensuring safety of food contact materials in new 2-page document

On November 23, 2018, the European Commission’s (EC) Joint Research Centre (JRC) published a two-page document entitled “From the packet to the pan: Keeping harmful chemicals out of your food.” The document explains that “[e]verything that comes into contact with food as it is produced, packaged, transported, stored, prepared or consumed also needs to be safe.” The JRC highlights how its researchers have contributed to improving the safety of packaging for baby food, developing guidelines for safe recycling of packaging materials, and setting quality standards for EU testing laboratories.
