EFSA evaluates another recycling process

“Greenfiber” based on VACUREMA Prime ® technology considered safe for recycling PET into food contact materials

On June 5, 2014 the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published a scientific opinion considering the process “Greenfiber” based on the previously authorized VACUREMA Prime ® technology safe for the recycling of post-consumer polyethylene terephthalate (PET) into food contact materials (FCMs). Based on conservative modeling, EFSA’s Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes, Flavourings and Processing Aids (CEF) estimates potential migration of unknown contaminants to remain below 0.1 μg/kg food.
