EFSA publishes opinion on mineral oils

In an opinion published in June EFSA concludes that there might be a need of reconsideration of Acceptable Daily Intakes (ADIs) of some  Mineral Oil ‘saturated’ Hydrocarbons (MOSHs)

In an opinion published in June experts of the Panel on Contaminants in the Food Chain (CONTAM) expressed concerns that background presence of saturated MOSHs might pose a health risk to some consumers. EFSA’s CONTAM carried out a consumer assessment of saturated and aromatic hydrocarbons and also made recommendations for the improvement of analysis, data collection and monitoring methods. The section of the opinion on MOSHs was supported by EFSA’s panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes, Flavourings and Processing Aids.
