The EFSA Panel on Food Contact materials, Enzymes and Processing Aids (CEP Panel) published the minutes of the 14th through 20th meetings of its Working Group on bisphenol A (WG-BPA) re-evaluation held between October 24 and December 4, 2019. During the meetings, the experts worked on making final changes to the technical report on the testing of the 2017 study appraisal methodology, including identifying relevant endpoints and subsequent clustering. The next meeting was scheduled to be held on January 21, 2019 in Parma, Italy.

The EFSA CEP Panel also published the minutes of the 10th meeting of its Working Group on Food Contact Materials (WG-FCM), which was held on November 26-28, 2019. During the meeting, the group continued discussing the ongoing activity related to the prioritization of substances without a specific migration limit (SML; EFSA-Q-2019-00150) on the FCM Union List. The group is was presented with the terms of reference of the mandate as well as “the on-going activities on the collection of chemical/toxicological information, setting the relevant criteria for the use of information, the in silico predictions and the feedback received from the EU Member States on risk assessments at national level.” The methodology and strategy for prioritizing the substances was discussed.

The group further discussed the dossier for 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate phosphate (as a monomer) (EFSA-Q-2019-00390) and bis(2-ethylhexyl)-cyclohexane-1,4-dicarboxylate (EFSA-Q-2018-00549) following receipt of information from the applicants. Both draft opinions were scheduled for discussion and potential adoption by the CEP Panel. Following receipt of additional information from the applicant for milled carbonized polyacrylonitrile (PAN) based carbon fiber (EFSA-Q-2018-00064), the group determined that additional information is required and the scientific evaluation is currently suspended. The next WG-FCM meeting will take place on January 14-16, 2019 in Parma, Italy.
