ECHA collects information for microplastics restriction

ECHA opens call for evidence on possible restriction of intentionally added microplastics; call open until May 11, 2018; informational webinar to be held on March 12, 2018

On March 1, 2018, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) launched a call for evidence regarding a possible restriction on the intentional use of microplastics in products. The European Commission (EC) mandated ECHA to prepare restriction proposals for oxo-degradable plastics and intentionally added microplastics to support the EC’s plastics strategy (FPF reported).

ECHA invites stakeholders to provide “information about the uses of microplastic particles, their alternatives as well as the costs and other impacts of a potential restriction.” The call for evidence is open until May 11, 2018.

On March 12, 2018, ECHA will hold a webinar “to clarify the scope of the call for evidence and answer any remaining questions,” targeted at “stakeholders planning to provide relevant information for the preparation of the restriction proposal.” Registration is available on the webinar website.
