U.S. EPA protocol for systematic review of PFAS toxicity

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency opens comment period on systematic review protocols for the assessment of five per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS); comments accepted until December 23, 2019

On November 8, 2019, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced a 45-day public comment period for the systematic review protocol for Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) assessments of five per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). These include: perfluorodecanoic acid (PFDA; CAS 335-76-2), perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA; CAS 375-95-1), perfluorohexanoic acid (PFHxA; CAS 307-24-4), perfluorohexanesulfonate (PFHxS; CAS 355-46-4), and perfluorobutanoic acid (PFBA; CAS 456-22-4). News provider Chemical Watch reported that the EPA aims for the protocols to be published early in the assessment process to “increase transparency” and clarify how the assessments will be run. The comment period is open until December 23, 2019.
